Senators Place Englund on Waivers

In the midst of their longest losing streak of the season, the Ottawa Senators are finally starting to get a little bit healthier.

Sure Clarke MacArthur is still out of the line up and there has been no sign of Ryan Callahan or Marian Gaborik in months. But Mark Borowiecki and Nikia Zaitsev are back and that’s all that matters.

DJ Smith had his team on the ice for practice this morning and they were joined but a couple familiar faces on the blueline.

Mark Borowiecki has missed the last couple games with the flu but he was back out there today and should be ready for tomorrow’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nikita Zaitsev has been out for nearly a month now but it looks like he may finally be ready to return. He was a full participant in today’s practice, skating on a pairing with the aforementioned Mark Borowiecki.

DJ Smith met with the media after the skate and suggested both guys will be good to go tomorrow.

With two guys coming back, the Senators have had to make some room on the roster. Andreas Englund was put on waivers today and if he clears, he’ll be returned to the American Hockey League.

Englund has appeared in 12 games with the Senators this season.

Here’s how the Senators lined up at today’s practice.
