For a long time, fans have been begging the Ottawa Senators to beef up the front office. And on Monday morning, they did exactly that.
The Ottawa Senators have hired Pierre McGuire as their new Senior Vice President of Player Development.
While the specifics of the role are a little bit up in the air, the press release makes a point of saying he’ll “work closely” with General Manager Pierre Dorion. Pierre Dorion spoke to the media earlier today and clarified that Pierre McGuire will report to him.
Good to know.
Here’s Eugene Melnyk on the hiring.
“On behalf of the entire Senators organization, I would like to welcome Pierre McGuire back to Ottawa. We are excited to add Pierre to our hockey management group. His experience will be instrumental as we continue to build an elite team. Pierre’s knowledge of the game and its players is highly regarded and I am confident that he will positively assist our team as it progresses to the next level.”
McGuire’s name has been linked to a number of front office jobs over the years so it’s safe to say that he had options before settling on a role with the Senators.
The Ottawa Senators have done an amazing job building up the hockey side of the operation. On the ice, they have all the pieces in place to be a contending team in the not too distant future. There are going to be some important decisions made this off-season and now Pierre Dorion has a little help as he navigates the next step of this rebuild.
According to Bruce Garrioch, McGuire is getting a three-year deal.
