Senators Fire Paul MacLean

There were rumours about this but I really didn’t think they would go through with it especially after that big win last night.

The Ottawa Senators announced this afternoon that they have fired Head Coach Paul MacLean.  Dave Cameron is expected to take over the Head Coach role.

(UPDATE 4:30 PM)- I’ll admit, I reacted with shock like everyone else. And I’m still not crazy about the idea of Dave Cameron taking over (seems like he was the second choice after Luke Richardson, anway). But what I can say is this- the players (maybe not all but certainly most) will be relieved by this decision. I hate the idea of a Coach being blamed for a team’s shortcomings but I’ve always said that if at any point the GM thinks his Coach has lost the room, he has to make a move. That’s what happened here in Ottawa.  Now it’s up to the players to respond. And I suppose if anybody knows what went wrong with MacLean, it would be Dave Cameron.  Quite a day.
