Senators Fall to Khudobin, Hurricanes

FIVE QUICK THOUGHTS

-After those early chances by Mike Hoffman and Curtis Lazar you sort of got the feeling this was going to be one of those nights for the Senators. I though Ottawa dominated this game for the majority of the 60 minutes but just couldn’t find a way to bury their chances.

-The Senators hit the post at least three times, missed the net from close range on multiple occasions and were flat out robbed by Anton Khudobin on a bunch of other chances. I’m not sure I can recall a game all season where Ottawa had so many high quality scoring chances. Ottawa probably deserved better in this one but the reality is they have to find a wayto score in these type of games.

-Nobody was more snake-bitten than Captain Erik Karlsson. By my count, he could have scored five last night. It’s too bad he wasn’t able to score but you have to like that kind of effort from Karlsson. He’s a different player with Marc Methot beside him.

-Tough night for the pairing of Patrick Wiercioch and Eric Gryba. Although to be honest there haven’t been many good nights when those two play together. They are both useful players on special teams but at 5 on 5, they can be a bit of a nightmare. Interested to see what Cameron does when Mark Borowiecki is healthy and ready to return.

-Cameron juggled his lines a little bit in the third period and the end result was a line of Hoffman-Legwand-Lazar playing together while Erik Condra found his way on to the Zibanejad-Ryan line. Also noticed Mark Stone back with Turris and MacArthur which is probably where he should be on a more permanent basis. Cameron suggested that the reason for the changes was to get Hoffman away from the Eric/Jordan Staal line.
