It’s always one of the first signs that a new season is nearly upon us.
This afternoon, the Ottawa Senators released their roster for this year’s annual Rookie Tournament taking place in London, Ontario. The Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins will join the Senators in this year’s tournament which will take place from September 11th to the 13th.
Ottawa’s first game is against the rookies from the Toronto Maple Leafs on the Friday night at 7:35 PM.
No huge surprises among the 24 players that were announced this afternoon but as always, a handful of undrafted players have been invited to participate.
Perhaps the most interesting of that group is Charlie Carlisle, a 20 year old defenceman for the Oshawa Generals. He was nominated as Overage Player of the Year in the OHL last season, racking up 44 points in 68 games.
The roster also includes draft picks from this year’s draft including Thomas Chabot, Filip Chlapik and Gabriel Gagne. First round pick Colin White was not among the 24 names announced.
Mikael Wikstrand is expected to play in this year’s tournament. He’ll definitely be a player to keep an eye this year. Wikstrand, along with guys like Nick Paul and Matt Puempel will be expected to dominate in a tournament like this. Should be fun to watch.

And if that’s not enough for you, the Binghamton Senators also announced their full schedule for the upcoming season this afternoon.
Not long now, folks!
