With the final preseason game out of the way, the Ottawa Senators announced what looks like the final round of cuts ahead of next week’s season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes.
No real surprises although of the group sent down yesterday, although Roby Jarventie certainly stood out during the preseason, scoring four times in five games. When it comes time for a call-up, Jarventie will be right near the top of that list.
The now 21-year old Jarventie is coming off a season where he put up 30 points in 40 AHL games and if the last couple weeks are any indication, he’s set to take another big step forward.
More tinkering is likely ahead of Wednesday night but for now anyway, it certainly looks like Ridly Greig, Jiri Smejkal and Rourke Chartier will be sticking around in Ottawa to start the year.
Josh Bailey, who is in Camp on a PTO, is still here and has certainly done enough in the preseason to earn a contract. We’ll see if they can make the money work. Meanwhile Zack MacEwen left last night’s game with an upper body injury and there was no immediate update on his status.
Also Josh Norris and Shane Pinto????
Opening day rosters and cap compliance are both required by tomorrow at 5:00 PM.
The Senators will be on the ice for practice at 11:00 AM this morning at the Canadian Tire Centre.
