In the end, it was a mostly quiet Trade Deadline Day in the Nation’s Capital.
Which is good because it gave us all a little more time to stare lovingly at the Jakob Chychrun trade.
It’s just so damn pretty.
That it was a slow day for Dorion really shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Like every other General Manager, Dorion made his big move in the lead up to the deadline. While other GMs resorted to exchanging clearly pretend hockey players, Dorion went out and added a little bit of depth at the centre ice position.
The Senators acquired 30-year old centre and UFA-to-be Patrick Brown in a buzzer-beater with the Philadelphia Flyers. Ottawa sent their 6th round pick in the 2023 draft the other way.
Brown is a bottom-six guy that is good on draws, can play the penalty kill and is aggressive on the forecheck. According to NHL.com, he’s averaging 15.19 hits per 60 minutes through 43 games with the Flyers this season. Also according to NHL.com, hit per 60 minutes is tracked stat.
He and Claude Giroux played together in Philly and on at least one occasion, looked directly at each other. Here’s proof.
Brown’s maternal grandfather is the late Wellington Mara, who co-owned the New York Giants and his uncle remains a co-owner of the team. Brown is also the son of former-NHLer Doug Brown.
There it is. Welcome aboard, Patrick.
