We all knew the next few days were going to be chaotic for the Ottawa Senators but this probably isn’t what we had in mind.
Pierre Dorion made a minor move this afternoon, acquiring 26-year old defenceman Josh Brown from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 4th round pick (95th overall) in this year’s Entry Draft.
Brown is a restricted free agent that played for Senators Head Coach DJ Smith during his time in Oshawa. He was the Captain of the Memorial Cup winning Generals in the 2014/2015 season.
The 6’5, 215 lbs defenceman appeared in 56 games with the Panthers last season, racking up 8 points along the way.
It will be interesting to see where Brown fits in the Ottawa line up. He’s a right shot defenceman, that plays with a bit of an edge. He might fit a little higher on the depth chart in Ottawa but it’s worth pointing out he played just a shade over 13 minutes a night under Joel Quenneville in Florida.
Here’s Pierre Dorion on what Brown brings to the line up.
“Josh Brown is a big, strong defenceman who plays a physical style of game. He’s a defensive defenceman who skates very well and who is exceptionally competitive. He’s also a very good shot blocker who clears a lot of space in front of the net. We’re looking forward to seeing him in our lineup.”
