Nothing like a late night trade to get things rolling around here.
Tonight, the Ottawa Senators announced the acquisition of Derek Stepan from the Arizona Coyotes. The Senators are sending a 2021 2nd round pick the other way.
Stepan is the final year of his contract and comes with a cap hit of $6.5 mil. His salary is just $5 million though and $3 million of that has already been paid out in a bonus.
The 30-year old Stepan is coming off a season where he had 10 goals and 28 points in 70 games.
Here’s Pierre Dorion on that trade…
“Derek’s acquisition provides us with important stability at centre heading into the season. He plays a 200-foot game and has proven to be a reliable special teams’ player throughout his career. His addition to our lineup will also represent a valuable leadership presence within our group.”
