This ten days without the Ottawa Senators is just flying by really.
With the Senators out of the picture, I have had time to focus on other things. I’ve started writing my memoirs shortly after googling what memoirs are. I’ve joined several unsuccessful book clubs. I’ve learned to file my tax return. And I have endlessly shoveled my roof. It’s going great actually.
Lost in all the excitement of All Star Weekend, and boy oh boy was there ever a lot of excitement, was an update of sorts on the sale of the Ottawa Senators.
The process is underway! Which we already knew, I suppose.
Only this time it was Gary Bettman, Commissioner of the National Hockey League providing the latest on where the process currently stands.
According to the Commish, as many as 15 different groups have entered the process and in the next couple weeks, they’ll start the process of separating the pretenders from the contenders.
I cannot confirm or deny whether SensChirp Enterprises is one of those groups.
Bettman also added that keeping the team in Ottawa continues to be a condition of any sale. Not that there was much concern on that front recently, especially given the opportunities that exist at the toxic wasteland that is LeBreton Flats.
Galatioto Sports Partners is leading the process on behalf of the organization. Last month, they opened a due-diligence website (which has still not been hacked somehow), allowing all bidders that signed a non-disclosure agreement to view the team’s finances and then base their offers on that information.
The expectation is that things will move pretty quickly once the official bids start coming in. It’s not out of the question that this whole process could be wrapped up by early next month.
Ryan Reynolds continues to have a serious interest in partnering with whoever does emerge as the favourite in this process. Names like Michael Andlauer, the Kimel brothers and Jeff York have all been linked to the process to date.
Also SensChirp Enterprises.
Ah damn it.
