A long-term financial commitment? In Ottawa?
Didn’t know such a thing was still an option.
Elliotte Friedman was the first to report that the Senators are close to signing a long-term contract extension with RFA forward Colin White.
The Senators made it official shortly after.
All across the NHL, RFAs remain unsigned but today, Pierre Dorion crossed the last one off his list.
In recent interviews, Dorion suggested the Senators were looking long-term on this one and that’s exactly where things end up.
While the Senators are paying for potential a little bit here, White certainly showed plenty of that during his first full season in the NHL.
White finished with 41 points in 71 games in 2018/2019.
Obviously there is a bit of a risk here but it’s oddly refreshing to see the Senators roll the dice a little bit to lock up an important piece of their future for years to come.
Next up- Thomas Chabot.
