Fans have been asking for it for years. And the rumours have been there for months now.
Today, something close to confirmation. The 2D logo will soon make it’s long-awaited return.
According to a report from Hailey Salvian at The Athletic, the Ottawa Senators are in the midst of finalizing a “rebrand” that includes a return to the 2D logo the team entered the league with back in 1992.
In the article, she lays out some of the details of the proposed jersey design and well, it’s basically perfect.
Shortly after the report in The Athletic, some additional details were leaked including confirmation that the new look is nearly identical to the originals as well as some additional details on timing.
It sounds like the team is also finalizing plans for a new third jersey which you would assume, involves the colour red. Especially if the new home/away look is black and white.
While the talk has really started to heat up about in the last week or so, rumours have been there for months. We’ve talked about the possibility on this site on multiple occasions and last season, I had a few people in the know reach out to me to tell me it was coming. In fact, at one point last year, somebody told me they had seen the actual jersey. And it sounded basically identical to what is being described above.
A brand refresh has always felt like low-hanging fruit for the organization.
For years now, fans have been talking about the idea of a rebrand. The release of the incredibly popular heritage look only accelerated that conversation and highlighted just how desperate fans were for a new look. And while there have been differing opinions on what direction the team should go, almost everyone agreed that it was time for a change.
And now finally, it sounds like the Ottawa Senators are going to make it happen.
