In the middle of July, any Senators news will do really.
This morning, the Ottawa Senators officially announced the signing of restricted free agent forward Shane Prince to a one year deal. It’s a two-way contract that will see Prince earn $700,000 at the NHL level and $120,000 in the American Hockey League.
Prince is coming off his best season as a pro. He racked up 65 points in 72 games in the American Hockey League and established himself as one of the organization’s top prospects. He was given a chance to play a couple games at the NHL level too and certainly did not look out of place. Prince will be expected to push for a spot with the big team this fall.
With Prince locked up, the Senators now have two RFAs left to deal with. Both Mike Hoffman and Alex Chiasson have arbitration dates set for later this month.
Remember, it’s very rare for these disputes to actually end up in arbitration so expect to hear movement on both of those fronts in the next couple weeks.
