In just nine days, the Ottawa Senators will drop the puck on the 2015/2016 regular season against the Buffalo Sabres.
The time for auditions is almost over and now the focus shifts to getting the NHL roster ready to go. With just three games left in their preseason schedule, Dave Cameron and his staff will want to use the remaining games as a tune up for the regular season.
23 players were sent to Binghamton yesterday and more cuts are expected after tonight’s game.
Heading into training camp, we all knew there was pretty much one forward spot and one defenceman spot available.
Right now, Shane Prince and Chris Wideman are the runaway favourites to grab those final two spots but there are still a handful of guys trying to make one last push. Up front, Matt Puempel is probably next in line while on defence, Mike Kostka has had a decent camp and remains in the mix.
It would take something pretty special for one of Prince or Wideman to be passed on the depth chart at this point but you never know.
Here’s how the Senators are expected to line up for this one.
MacArthur-Turris-Stone
Michalek-Pageau-Ryan
Puempel-Smith-Lazar
Prince-O’Dell-Stortini
Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Wideman
Borowiecki-Kostka
Craig Anderson and Andrew Hammond are expected to split the goaltending duties.
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 8:00 PM. The game is available on TSN5.
