With the Alex Chiasson arbitration behind us, the focus now shifts to Mike Hoffman, who has his hearing scheduled for Thursday.
This morning, we got our first glimpse at where the two sides are at heading into the hearing and unlike the Chiasson numbers from last week, it seems like the Senators may be the side that’s a little off in their original number.

Important to keep in mind that when the two sides submit a number to the arbitrator, it’s not so much about what they think the player is worth but instead sort of a strategic number in an attempt to influence where the arbitrator is going to rule.
The good news here is with Hoffman requesting $3.4 mil, the Senators will not be able to walk away from any decision. The CBA states that the team can’t walk away unless the ruling is higher than $3.8 million.
Still think there is a chance the two sides find common ground before that hearing on Thursday but obviously the clock is ticking.
