This morning, the Ottawa Senators unveiled some preliminary details about the team’s new charitable foundation.
The Senators Community Foundation is the new name and they’ll have a familiar face at the top.
Chris Phillips, the team’s all-time leader in games played, has been named as the Executive Director of the new Foundation.
The announcement comes just two months after what was a messy split from the team’s long-standing charitable arm, the Sens Foundation. That organization has since re-branded itself as the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation and is expected to continue a similar mandate to the one they did in their previous 22 years of operation.
It will be interesting to see how the new Senators Community Foundation operates and where they choose to focus their efforts. Given the concerns the Ottawa Senators raised about their own foundation during an ugly back and forth earlier this summer, it’s safe to assume people will be watching this new organization pretty closely.
While it’s unfortunate that this all played out the way it did, it’s encouraging to see that the original foundation landed on their feet and that the Senators aren’t wasting any time get started with their new charitable arm.
And I think we can all agree that Chris Phillips is exactly the right person to help point the new Senators Community Foundation in the right direction.
Oh and there’s this!
