UPDATE- 12:50 PM- It’s Official, the Ottawa Senators have landed Boston University goaltender Matt O’Connor! Huge addition for the organization and one that makes an already tricky goaltending situation that much more uncertain. Fact is, any time you can add a prospect to your team without giving anything up, it’s a huge move. Garrioch is suggesting that it’s a two year deal. Clock is officially ticking on a goalie trade in Ottawa.
Ottawa’s goaltending situation should be a little bit clearer by 1:00 PM this afternoon.
Boston University standout Matt O’Connor is expected to announce which team he is headed to early this afternoon. According to Mark Spector of Sportsnet, O’Connor has already decided which team he will sign with and will spend this morning notifying the interested suitors of his decision.
Sports betting sites would probably have a tough time picking a favourite in the O’Connor sweepstakes but people I’ve talked to really believe the Senators have a good chance.
The Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks are the other three teams still in the running.
O’Connor’s agent has talked about important factors in this decision and somewhat surprisingly, the chance to start right away is not a big deal for O’Connor. He acknowledges that his game needs work and has said that a good goalie coach and an opportunity to properly develop are both important to him as a young play entering the league.
An announcement on his future is only a few hours away. Will update the site as we hear more.
