Today, the Ottawa Senators reached an agreement with forward Nick Paul on a two-year contract extension. He’ll earn $1.2 mil in the first year of the deal and $1.5 million in year two. Works out to a cap hit of $1.35 million per season.
Up until last season, it felt like Nick Paul was a player that was at risk of losing his spot on the depth chart. With so many young players coming up through the ranks, it seemed like a “last chance” of sorts for the now 25-year old Paul.
He made the most of the opportunity though, carving out a niche for himself in Ottawa’s bottom-six. Paul had 20 points in 56 games and proved that he can be an effective two-way forward when given the opportunity.
Nick Paul had an arbitration hearing scheduled for November 1st but the Senators will be happy to avoid that process.
Connor Brown (October 22nd), Christian Jaros (November 7th) and Chris Tierney (November 7th) all have hearings scheduled in the next few weeks.
