The strange saga that is Marc Methot’s season took another interesting twist yesterday as the defenceman returned to practice for the first time in a couple weeks.
Methot spoke to the media afterwards (which he hasn’t done often this season) and suggested that he’s feeling much better and could be ready to play again in the near future. Exactly where he plays is still to be determined. The talk yesterday was that there’s a chance Marc Methot could go to Binghamton for a brief conditioning stint and that the move could happen as early as this weekend.
As of this morning nothing had been announced but this is definitely a move the team is considering. Dave Cameron indicated that if Methot is cleared by the team doctors, he could play there this weekend.
In sort of an odd bit of news, which has become the norm when it comes to Methot, Bruce Garrioch suggested that the team wanted to loan Methot to Binghamton earlier this season but former Head Coach Paul MacLean blocked the move. Pretty strange that a Coach would want to do such a thing and even stranger that he would have any authority over that type of decision.
I asked around a little bit yesterday and was told quite clearly that MacLean did no such thing. Bizarre.
The Senators have a full day off today and are back on the practice ice tomorrow morning ahead of a tough back to back this weekend. With the injury to Mark Borowiecki, there’s a chance the Senators may call up a defenceman from Binghamton as an insurance policy. That move was expected to be announced yesterday afternoon but nothing yet.
May have to wait until tomorrow morning’s practice to find out for sure.
