As expected, the Ottawa Senators announced this afternoon that defenceman Marc Methot is headed to Binghamton of the American Hockey League.
Methot, who has battled a wonky back all season, finally seems to have turned a corner in his recovery and is healthy enough for a conditioning stint in Binghamton. Methot will be officially assigned to the AHL this afternoon and is expected to be in the Binghamton Senators line up tomorrow against the Syracuse Crunch.
It’s a good sign for Methot who has had a season to forget to this point. His injury has bordered on mysterious with little details given on exactly what the injury is and how long it would take to get back to 100%. Obviously this is an important season for Methot as he plays out the final year of his contract and prepares for unrestricted free agency this summer. There’s still a chance Methot signs a deal here in Ottawa but talks have been pretty quiet to this point.
With Methot headed to Binghamton and just six healthy defenceman on the roster, the Senators are expected to call someone up from Bingo. They’ll wait until after tonight’s BSens game to make the announcement. Freddy Claesson and Chris Wideman are two of the possibilities.
The Senators just wrapped up practice this morning at the Canadian Tire Centre with Coach Cameron announcing Craig Anderson as his starter tomorrow afternoon in Boston.
