As the Senators made their dramatic push to the playoffs, there was a familiar face missing from the thrilling finish.
And now we know why.
This afternoon, the Ottawa Senators announced that Owner Eugene Melnyk has spent the last three weeks in the hospital and according to Doctor’s evaluations, is in need of an urgent liver transplant. Terrifying news for the Senators’ Owner and for the entire organization.
This afternoon, the team sent out a news release explaining the situation and at the same time, appealing to members of the public to come forward in the event that they might be a potential match to be a live liver donor.
What was truly an amazing season on the ice has been equally devastating away from the rink. Assistant Coach Mark Reeds passed away in April, General Manager Bryan Murray continues his battle with cancer and now this afternoon, we learn of the serious health issues facing the team’s owner.
Thoughts and well-wishes are with Mr. Melnyk and his family during this difficult time.
