Some great news for Sens fans this afternoon with the start of training camp now less than a month away.
Pending unrestricted free agent forward Clarke MacArthur has signed a five year extension with the team worth an average of $4.65 million a season. The Senators have been quite open about their interest in talking with all of the 2015 UFAs so to see one of them officially signed is a great sign for the organization. MacArthur had terrific chemistry with Kyle Turris last season and is expected to start on his left side again this season.
MacArthur quickly became a fan favourite in Ottawa by doing all the right things on the ice and always saying the right things off of it. It’s hard for a new player to take on that “leader” label sometimes but MacArthur really seemed like that type of player. The fact that he was willing to make a long term commitment to the organization should be an important consideration for Bobby Ryan and Marc Methot.
This afternoon’s announcement really was a breath of fresh air for a team desperate for some good news. That they were able to get him signed for a very reasonable cap hit only adds to the good vibes around this contract.
