Looking Ahead to Another Year of SensChirp

We’re almost there, folks.

A quick glance at the calendar shows that we’re just about through the month of August. This is bad news for people who enjoy things like daylight and sunshine and warmth but for hockey fans, it means a new season is just around the corner.

The early signs are already there.

The Head Coach is stopping by the local radio station. Tickets for next season are on sale. A random collection of players can be seen skating at the SensPlex on any given day. And SensChirp is posting articles on consecutive days.

Not long now. Don’t believe me? See for yourself…

Rookie Tournament Opener vs. New Jersey – 17 days
Start of Training Camp – 23 days
Preseason Opener vs. Toronto – 26 days
Preseason Finale vs. Montreal – 39 days
Regular Season Opener vs. Carolina – 43 days
Home Opener vs. Philadelphia – 46 days

You know it’s close when I go through the trouble of figuring out just how much longer I have to wait for the return of the Ottawa Senators.

This also happens to be the 17th year of SensChirp.

Yea, I’ve been doing whatever this is for 17 years now. And even longer than that if you count those early days on the Sportsnet message boards.

As I look ahead to what comes next for SensChirp Enterprises (not a real company, btw, please stop trying to buy/sue it), it occurs to me that it has been a little while since I checked in with the readers on where things stand with the site. And where we can take this thing in the years ahead.

The community continues to be the driving force behind SensChirp.ca and it’s what separates this site from every other Sens-related website. That’s why it’s critically important that it continues to reflect what you expect from this strange corner of the internet.

So today, I thought it might be a good idea (or a very very bad idea) to open the floor a little bit and get some suggestions for ways we can keep things fresh around here and ideally, take this thing to the next level.

What works?
What doesn’t?
What would you like to see more of?
What would you like to see less of?

Contests? The end of Disqus? More/some podcast episodes? A YouTube channel? Full time comment section moderators? New contributors?

The SensChirp Suggestion Box is officially open. Let’s hear it!
