Leafs/Senators Game Postponed

Not surprisingly, tonight’s game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators has been postponed as a result of the incident in Downtown Ottawa this morning.

You see stuff like this on the news and it’s always awful. You feel for the people in the city where it’s happening. But today, it happened in our city. And that made it all the more real.  Thoughts are with all those directly impacted by today’s tragedy.  And it should go without say but thanks to all the first responders who have put their lives on the line to protect all of us on such a surreal day in the Nation’s Capital.

I posted this in the comments section below but wanted to add it to the post as well.  We’ll get back to normal around here tomorrow.

About Yesterday…

One of the most fascinating things about people and about the human condition is the way tragedy brings people closer together. The way fear draws us closer. Sadness. Anger. Disbelief. All of it brings people closer. Whether it’s friends, whether it’s a family, strangers or a whole damn city.

Ottawa is different this morning.

It’s a little quieter. It’s a little on edge. More aware. But it’s also more thankful, more friendly, more united. I saw it this morning going to work. I saw it on Twitter all day yesterday and again today. We saw it here in the comment section. As a city, as a country, as people- we’ve been drawn closer to each other.

Absolutely there was innocence lost yesterday. But in some ways, we were naive to believe that it ever existed. Or that it was ever permanent.

Remember the way yesterday made you feel- the anger, the fear, the disbelief. Remember the heroic men and woman that worked tirelessly to defend us yesterday. Remember the ‎brave soldier that lost his life.

But also, remember the way you feel today. Remember the kindness and respect you have for the people around you. Remember the feeling of being united by this tragedy. Remember the intense connection you feel to this great city.

Ottawa is different today and in some ways, Ottawa is stronger than ever.
