One week to go.
If this extended time without the Ottawa Senators in my life has taught me anything, it’s that I uh prefer having the Ottawa Senators in my life. In a cool and normal way of course. I have tried other ways to pass the time- reading, exercising, working and basically being a functioning member of society and yet, it’s just not the same.
So hurry back Ottawa Senators.
While the Troy Mann news got us through one of the days, it’s pretty clear that we’re going to have to come up with other ways to navigate this Sens-less (nonSense?) time in our lives.
And while I had hoped that the NHL’s All Star Weekend might serve as some sort of distraction, the reality is that Skills Competition took years off my life. I was one of the brave few that watched that abomination from start to finish and let me say this about that- why??! Like, what was any of that? And why, WHY did I watch the entire three hours?
I am generally supportive of All Star weekend, recognizing that it’s mostly an event for young fans and for the host city but it felt like last night’s Skills Competition reached unprecedented levels of suck. Wait, does that mean I’m old now?
Anyway, where was I? Right, where the HELL did the Ottawa Senators go?
One minor roster note to report as according to Bruce Garrioch, it sounds like Mark Kastelic may spend a bit of time in Belleville after the All Star break. While he was assigned to the AHL following Ottawa’s last game, it does sound like he’s actually going to report to the BSens and play a few games down there.
Kastelic has been a healthy scratch for the last four games in Ottawa so obviously, this will be a chance for him to play a little bit and ideally, play a little bit more than he has with the big team recently.
Kastelic has also been nursing a “minor upper body injury” so he gets some time to rest up during the break and then will suit up for the BSens on Friday night.
The now 23-year old Kastelic got off to a good start this season but seemed to hit a bit of wall recently and hasn’t been as noticeable in that bottom six role.
He signed a two-year extension with the Senators back in October (and on a one-way contract) so it’s important that he relocates some of that early season confidence.
Sens news? Just barely.
One week to go.

Have you voted for SensChirp yet today? No? Why not? Voting closes on February 15th so you still have time to make this right. We’re nominated in the Blog, Twitter Account and Sports Podcast categories. I want those generic awards, damn it. My “Ottawa’s Favourite Blogger” award from 2015 is awfully lonely on that “Blog Awards” shelf of mine.
