After speaking with some additional sources over the weekend, I now need to correct something I reported towards the end of last week.
In Thursday’s post, I suggested that the Ottawa Senators do indeed, still exist. It would appear that my reporting may have been a tad premature. While the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club is a functioning NHL franchise, confirming their existence may have not be entirely accurate.
They have players. They practice regularly. But playing another competitive NHL hockey game? Extremely teebeedee, at the moment.
Thursday’s game against the Flames remains on the schedule but I’m worried if I even look at it, I’ll scare it away.
So while the Senators eagerly await permission to play another hockey match, some Sens-related news to pass along.
Earlier today, Jake Sanderson confirmed that will indeed suit up for Team USA at the Olympic Hockey Tournament in China next month. It’s welcome news for Sens fans looking for anything even resembling a session.
Sanderson had his World Juniors cut short last month so this is a good opportunity for him to put on a show on an even bigger stage. The now 19-year old Sanderson has already solidified his standing as the best prospect in the organization with some jaw-dropping numbers at UND this season. 22 points in just 17 games. And now he can show the hockey world just how far his game has come in the last couple seasons.
While the Olympic hockey tournament isn’t close to the best-on-best showcase it was supposed to be, it’s still an incredible experience for Sanderson.
He is scheduled to finish the month of January at UND before joining Team USA early next month.
The United States opens the Olympic Hockey Tournament against China on February 10th.
Will the Senators play before then? Stay tuned.
Also, hi.
