It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
With 21 games left in the season, the Ottawa Senators sit last in the Atlantic Division. They sit tied for last in the Eastern Conference. They rank 28th out of 32 teams although in a power rankings of the most disappointing, they would sit comfortably at the top.
It was supposed to be the year that they finally turned the corner. And yet as the barrels through March, the on-ice product is as bad as its ever been. It’s not hard to envision how Steve Staios and company might go about trying to turn this thing around but it’s the fact that we have to wait another year of our lives for the possibility of meaningful hockey games that is particularly discouraging.
Predictability, as the team has bottomed out, so too has the discourse among Sens fans. The passion is still in there somewhere, you can see signs of it, but logic is mostly out the window. There are some fans that want to see change but mostly just for the sake of it. Others that want to blow the thing up entirely. And then a significant portion that are just tired.
The Ottawa Senators visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.
Lineup is a mystery but it’s certain to contain the expected amount of both Chuks and Chouks.
In some good news, the Senators have decided to start this game at a reasonable hour. Sportsnet One, CityTV, TSN1200 and shady internet streaming sites are all in play tonight.
Here’s a HEAD2HEAD Table I guess?
