Not. Dead. Yet.
If you were under the impression that this year’s version of the Ottawa Senators was going to go down without a fight, well then you haven’t really been paying attention. This is a team that has been written off on a few occasions this season and each time they find a way to fight back.
Even after a season-ending injury to their number one centre and even after losing their top two goalies, they kept fighting. Even after a disastrous five-game road trip, they’re still standing. And thanks to a 7-2 drubbing of the Tampa Bay Lightning, they proved they still have a pulse. There’s still some fight left in the group.
The Ottawa Senators visit the Ew Jersey Devils on Saturday night.
With ten games left in their season, the Sens are in a spot where they really need a miracle of sorts. Not the walk on water type just yet but they definitely need a bunch of things to go right over the next few weeks. It’s going to take all sorts of help from the out-of-town scoreboard but it’s also going to mean they have to take care of their own business. That continues tonight against a Devils team that is coming off a loss last night in Buffalo.
No game day skate for the Senators ahead of this one but DJ Smith just wrapped up his media availability and there are changes expected.
Jakob Chychrun is a little worse than doubtful and apparently out for a few weeks. That means Nick Holden draws back in. Meanwhile, Ridly Greig’s year is done. Tyler Kleven apparently needs a little more time before his debut.
A best guess at the lineup.
Tkachuk-Stützle-Giroux
DeBrincat-Pinto-Batherson
Brassard-Gambrell-Gauthier
Brown-Kastelic-Watson
Chabot-Zub
Sanderson-Hamonic
Brannstrom-Holden
No word on a starting goalie.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 PM in the Swamp. The game is available on stupid ol’ Sportsnet. TSN1200 has the radio call and our dear friend Bort is serving up the swamps. Er the streams.
Wondering how the Sens match-up against the surprisingly not boring Devils? This collection of columns and rows knows best.
