Game Day – Senators Travel to New York to Visit Rangers

I believe Limp Bizkit said it best when he boldly advised the following…

(I move in, now move out) Hands up, now hands down
(Back up, back up) Tell me what you’re gonna do now
(Breathe in, now breathe out) Hands up, now hands down
(Back up, back up) Tell me what you’re gonna do now
Keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ (What?)
Keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ (Come on)
Keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ (Yeah)
Keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’

Geez.

The Ottawa Senators look to uh keep it rollin’ when they visit Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers.

With 36 games left in the regular season, “this is a big game” is a refrain we should probably get used to. We’ve waited a long time for the Senators to play meaningful hockey in the second half of the season and now we just need to accept that feeling of excitement/dread that comes with every game.

Fun, right?!

Ottawa enters tonight’s action as the first Wild Card team in the Eastern Conference, a point clear of the Columbus Blue Jackets, although the Sens have a game in hand. A glance upward in the standings now shows that a top three spot in the Eastern Conference is also within range. Ottawa sits just a point back of the Tampa Bay Lightning, although our cousins have a game in hand.

Tonight’s opponent also happens to be one of the teams hanging out in the rearview mirror, making this another big ol’ ice hockey match.

Nick Jensen, who is clearly battling through some kind of injury to the last few weeks, was again absent at the Game Day skate. Travis Green says he expects him to be good to go tonight. David Perron skated in a regular jersey, rotating with Michael Amadio on the fourth line, although he’s not expected back until later in the week.

Here’s how the Senators lined up this morning.

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Giroux-Stützle-Gaudette
Cousins-Pinto-Greig
Highmore-Ostapchuk-Amadio/Perron

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Jensen
Kleven-Matinpalo

All three goalies are with the team on this road trip but it’s Leevi Merilainen that gets the start.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:08 PM at MSG. The game is on TSN5, TSN1200 and streaming options should show up in the comment section closer to game time.
