Game Day- Senators Return Home to Face Red Wings

Only 74 more games to go.

222 periods or about 4,440 minutes of Sens hockey left in the 2019-2020 regular season. Not that I’m keeping track or anything.

After a mostly disastrous road trip, the Ottawa Senators limp home to face the Detroit Red Wings.

Coming into this season, there were projections of doom and gloom for the Sens. And while there have been moments where this team looked like they had the potential to prove those dastardly experts wrong, it’s looking more and more like doom and gloom was an understatement.

The Ottawa Senators sit comfortably in 31st in the NHL through the first eight games of the season and there’s plenty of evidence to suggest they could sit in that very spot for most of the season.

One win through the first eight games of the season.

They can’t score and they can’t prevent scoring chances. Their power play stinks, their goaltending has been inconsistent and their line up is littered with players just barely hanging on to NHL careers. They need to somehow win 11 more games to surpass the 24 point season they put up back in 1992. It’s…gonna be close.

Plenty of tickets still available for tonight’s game, by the way.

The Detroit Red Wings appear to be on a similar path to the Senators this season. They’ve won just 3 of their first 9 games and have struggled in most aspects of the game.

Someone has to win though!

The Senators made a roster move ahead of tonight’s game, recalling Logan Brown from Belleville.

It’s going to be interesting to see where he fits in the line up and whether or not he can do enough to stick around for good.

Brown was close to making the team out of Camp this year but was sent down in the final round of cuts. His agent then went on Ottawa radio and talked about how disappointed he was in the decision.

To Brown’s credit, he’s gone down to the American Hockey League and put in the work to earn a recall. While the BSens have struggled overall, Brown has put up an impressive seven points through five games.

The power play here in Ottawa can certainly use him.

Here’s how DJ Smith has ’em lined up at the morning skate. Both Colin White and Artem Anisimov missed the AM skate.
