Game Day- Senators Return Home to Face Kings

Let’s all put Saturday night behind us, shall we?

I think we can all agree that the first period against the Habs the other night was completely unacceptable. Coaches. Players. Fans.  Everyone expects better than what we saw in those first twenty minutes and rightfully so.  With some tough games coming up the rest of the month, the Senators will have to find another gear if they want to hang on to their spot in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

And it starts tonight against the surging Los Angeles Kings.

This Kings team took a bit of a step back last season but look like they could be a contender again this year.  They’re sitting in first place in the Pacific Division and second overall in the Western Conference.  They have a +14 goal differential (also 2nd in the West) and have been the league’s hottest team over the last ten games, going 7-1-2.

The Kings take more shots than anyone in the NHL. The Senators give up more than anyone.

Head Coach Dave Cameron was visibly upset when speaking to the media after the game (and again at the morning skate) and will be expecting a lot more from his team tonight against the Kings.  Will be interesting to see how they respond.

Same line up expected as Shane Prince is again a healthy scratch in favour of Mark Borowiecki.  I can usually make sense of most moves but this one is just ridiculous. No other way to describe it.  Here’s how the Coach has his team lined up at the morning skate.

Smith-Turris-Stone
Hoffman-Zibanejad-Ryan
Dziurzynski-Pageau-Chiasson
Borowiecki-Lazar-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Wiercioch-Ceci
Cowen-Wideman

Craig Anderson makes another start in the Ottawa goal.  Andrew Hammond will dress as his back up and is expected to get a start this week. Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:30 PM.

CONTEST- Hyperline Presents-“Guess the Game”

hyper

The Ottawa Senators have played more than 1700 games in the regular season. Another 130 or so in the playoffs. And right now, I am thinking of one of those games.  It’s up to you to figure out which one.

Each day this week, a clue about a particular game in Ottawa Senators’ history will be hidden somewhere on the Hyperline website. You have to piece together those clues and figure out the mystery game.

Just click the Hyperline box on the right hand side to start at their home page and look for the clue somewhere on the site (Hint- look for the SensChirp logo). We’ll do one clue a day on Monday-Thursday and then on Friday, rapid fire clues until someone guesses the right game.

When you think you have figured out, email senschirp@hotmail.com with the date the game was played on, the final score, the two teams involved and your name. It’s that simple. One guess per person though so make it count.  And to the winner? Two tickets in the amazing Club Bell for the January 7th game against the Florida Panthers.

Thanks to Hyperline for offering up this great prize! Hyperline is a local cabling systems company that sells a comprehensive selection of cost-effective cabling products with unparalleled support and service. Be sure to check them out. And as I’ve mentioned before, they are huge Sens fans! You may have seen some of their ads around the Canadian Tire Centre.

The first clue is somewhere on their site right now, by the way. Good luck!
