Game Day – Senators Host Red Wings on Monday Night

If you have spent enough time on this site over the years, you’ve heard me talk about “moments”.

A big goal. A big game. Or just an opportunity to experience something unique in your journey as a Sens fan. Saturday afternoon’s dramatic 4-3 win over the New York Rangers was absolutely one of those moments.

I was at the game with my two daughters and in the third period it sort of dawned on me that while they’ve both adopted the whole Sens fan thing, they really haven’t had a chance to see the rink and the city come alive during one of those moments. Norah was at the Pageau game back in the day but she was too young to really appreciate it. With things looking grim in the third period and the Senators down by a couple, Emma looked over at me and said….”I still think they can do it”. She was so right.

In the blink of any eye – Greig. Amadio. Tkachuk. Game.

The Ottawa Senators look to build on Saturday’s win when they play another massive game at the Canadian Tire Centre, this time against the Detroit Red Wings.

The term “big game” is gonna lose all meaning over the next month or so but this definitely a biggie. The Senators sit three points clear of the Red Wings heading into tonight and with a game in hand. Another chance to take a couple points from one of the teams nipping at their heels.

On Saturday, Dylan Cozens made his debut and tonight, it’s gonna be Fabian Zetterlund’s turn. Zetterlund arrived in Ottawa yesterday and he’ll draw into the lineup wearing number 20. Based on the combinations at the morning skate, it looks like he’ll start on a line with Matthew Highmore and Adam Gaudette. Obviously Green doesn’t want to mess with his other lines but you can bet that Zetterlund won’t be down there for long.

Nick Jensen missed the morning skate, as he has often has the last little while. Dennis Gilbert was in his spot next to Tomas Chabot, in what looked like a placeholder role. Travis Hamonic was out there despite that scary incident on Saturday against the Rangers.

Here’s how Travis Green has ’em lined up this morning.

Tkachuk-Stützle-Giroux
Perron-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Amadio
Highmore-Gaudette-Zetterlund

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-Jensen
Kleven-Hamonic
Matinpalo

Linus Ullmark gets the start in goal.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:38 PM at the The Tire. The game is available on Amazon Prime and on the radio at TSN1200. Or head down to the rink and maybe experience one of those moments for yourself.

Go. Sens. Go.
