The Ottawa Senators are in Vancouver tonight to visit the Canucks.
Well that’s why most of them are there. Mark Borowiecki is in town on more important business.
You see on Sunday afternoon, Mark was out for a leisurely stroll in Vancouver’s Gastown district. And then, duty called. Borowiecki witnessed someone attempting to break into a car and steal a backpack and told them to stop. When the would-be bandit attempted to flee the scene on his bicycle, BoroCop stepped in.
The alleged thief took off on a bicycle, at which point Borowiecki stepped in, and “clotheslined” the man, knocking him to the ground.
“Mark, acting like the defenceman he is, tracked down the thief and wrestled the bag away from him as the thief rode away,” said Const. Aaron Roed with Vancouver police.
“He does have an interesting nickname — ‘Borocop,’ from what I understand — and it’s rightfully so for this situation. He stepped up and assisted the Vancouver police and was able to get the property back to its rightful owners.”
The Senators official Twitter account has obtained this video of the incident.
Seriously though, Mark Borowiecki is an absolute legend. Not only is having a career-year on the ice but he’s also fighting crime on his days off.
Anyway, there’s a hockey game tonight.
The previously red-hot Senators come into this one ice-cold. They have dropped four straight, outscored 13-4 along the way. They’ve gone from the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race to comfortably nestled in 29th overall.
The Canucks have had sort of an up and down start to their season. They’re a couple games over .500 but have dropped three of their last four. They sit just one point back of the San Jose Sharks in the chase for a Western Conference Wild Card spot.
Optional game day skate at 1:45 PM today but here’s how the Senators are expected to clothesline up based on yesterday’s practice combinations.

Anders Nilsson gets the start in goal for the Senators. Tom Pyatt plays in Sweden now.
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 10:00 PM which is awfully late on a school night. The game is available on TSN5, Sportsnet Pacific, the New RO and can be streamed using your neighbour’s wifi connection.
