The Ottawa Senators play a hockey game today.
It’s against the New York Islanders. And it means absolutely nothing.
With all the playoff spots locked up in the Eastern Conference, all that’s left to decide is who plays who. If the Toronto Maple Leafs pick up a point or two in their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Battle of Ontario returns. If the Leafs lose that game in regulation, then the Senators play their first ever playoff series against the Boston Bruins.
It’s that simple.
Meanwhile the Senators will mostly just be trying to get through the game on Long Island. Matt O’Connor, Nick Paul, and Andreas Englund have been recalled while Chris Neil, Chris DiDomenico, Colin White and Jyrki Jokipakka are all expected to play. Phaneuf, Turris, Hoffman, Stone, Stalberg and Anderson are all getting the day off.
Erik Karlsson, Marc Methot and Zack Smith are all out too but all three are expected to be fine when the playoffs start next week.
Guy Boucher will meet with the media at 11:30 AM to talk about his line up. Tune in because there’s a good chance you could be playing.
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 5:00 PM.
