Game Day- Battle of Ontario Resumes in Toronto

After a pretty solid performance in their regular season opener, the Ottawa Senators head to Toronto looking for a 2-0-0 start to the 2015/2016 campaign.

It’s a big weekend for the Senators as tomorrow night they host the Montreal Canadiens in the home opener at the Canadian Tire Centre.

But first, those damn Maple Leafs.

It seems like we say this at the start of every season now but it’s worth repeating- The Battle of Ontario certainly isn’t what it once was.  I mean, losing to them still sucks but they obviously aren’t a threat to anyone in the Eastern Conference for at least three more seasons.

But I sort of felt that hatred (although that seems like too strong of a word at this point) being rekindled this off season. For some reason, and I mostly blame Twitter, it seems like everyone is endlessly heaping praise on this organization for a series of mediocre moves. When I look at the collection of egos they’ve pulled together in that front office and behind the bench, I find myself more than ever wanting to see the Toronto Maple Leafs fail.

So maybe the future of the Battle of Ontario is bright after all.

The Senators should have a bit of an advantage tonight as they catch the Leafs in the second game of a back to back. Add in the fact that James Reimer will start after playing forty minutes of relief work last night, and the Senators should be in a good position heading into tonight’s match up.

But it’s a game against the Leafs on Saturday night. “Should” really doesn’t seem to apply in these games.

No changes expected from the team that beat the Sabres on Thursday night.  Here’s how Dave Cameron has them lined up at the morning skate.
