It’s really hard to remember a time in franchise history when the fan base was this excited for the start of a new season.
It makes sense if you think about.
The young talent alone is enough to put people in the seats. Having a chance to see the likes of Tim Stützle, Josh Norris, Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson, Jake Sanderson and Thomas Chabot on a nightly basis is pretty special.
The cool thing about that list of young players is I seem to write it in a different order every time. And sometimes with new players thrown in the mix. This team is loaded with young talent and you get the sense that a few of those guys are poised for huge years.
On top of that, you have the off-season additions. Rather than be content with a young team nearing a breakthrough, Management went out and gave them a push. A big one too.
Pierre Dorion stole the show this off-season and added a 24-year old two-time 40-goal scorer, an All-Star goalie and the best free agent on the market. The additions of Alex DeBrincat, Cam Talbot and Claude Giroux really are game-changers for the Senators.
Then, you have the prospect of a COVID-free season. No cancellations, no stupid cardboard cutouts in the stands and just packed barns on a nightly basis. The way it should be. By all accounts, the team has seen a huge increase in season ticket sales this summer and it should lead to a return to glory down at the CTC. That place is gonna be buzzin’ all season long and it will be spectacular.
With the new season just around the corner, I was lucky enough to be selected to attend a Season Start-up Event down at the Canadian Tire Centre later today. A sincere thanks to everyone that passed along my name for this cool opportunity, by the way.
Not exactly sure what they have in store but it does sound like we’ll get some updates on the team’s plans for the upcoming season, both on and off the ice. Oh and if they let us in the locker room, I will politely refuse for fear of stepping on the logo again.
We’ll also have a chance to sit in on Alex DeBrincat’s first meeting with the media.
Will do my best to keep this post updated over the course of the day. Keep an eye on Twitter too and the comment section below.
Hockey is almost here, folks.
