(UPDATE 2:33 PM)- Another UFA-to-be on the move as the Senators are sending Zach Sanford to the Winnipeg Jets. They’ll get a 5th round pick in return.
(UPDATE 2:09 PM)- One of the UFAs is on the move. The Senators are sending Josh Brown to the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Zach Senyshyn and a swap of draft picks. Senyshyn is expected to join the team in Belleville for now.
(UPDATE 10:34 AM)- The first big splash of the day for the Senators and it’s about a player sticking around.
There’s no day quite like it.
It always seems to bring out the worst in NHL General Managers. That’s probably why it’s one of the most entertaining day’s on the league calendar. It’s Trade Deadline Day and business has already started to pick up around the league.
With a pretty clear separation between buyers and sellers, the moves started early this year and it’s expected to continue all the way up until the 3:00 PM deadline.
Pierre Dorion, who loves a trade as much as the next guy, has already started the wheeling and dealing.
Loading …Yesterday, he flipped a 3rd round pick to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Travis Hamonic. Everyone was mad. He then sent pending unrestricted free agent Nick Paul to the Tampa Bay Lighting for Mathieu Joseph and a 4th round pick. Everyone was conflicted.
Loading …And it sounds like the fun is just getting started in the Nation’s Capital.
While it may not have the flash and uh soul-crushing dread of previous years, it does sound like Pierre Dorion has a few irons in the fire. Outside of Anton Forsberg, he would happily move any of the teams UFAs-to-be. That’s a list that includes Zach Sanford, Tyler Ennis, Chris Tierney and Josh Brown.
At the same time, it sounds like the team may be considering a couple bigger moves. Bruce Garrioch has mentioned it a couple times in the last 24 hours but it does sound like the Senators are at least exploring the market for Colin White.
A goalie? A “hockey trade”? The elusive “top six forward”? All possibilities as we head into Deadline Day on SensChirp.
