Pierre Dorion and the Ottawa Senators are nearing the end of their lengthy search for a new Head Coach.
Eugene Melnyk was on Prime Time Sports last night and suggested that Dorion is expected to come to Melnyk with the finalists as early as Friday. From there, it sounds like Melnyk will meet with each of the remaining candidates before Dorion makes his final recommendation.
Bruce Garrioch mentioned that the Senators would officially interview top candidate Bruce Boudreau for the job tomorrow. And as we saw on Twitter, Boudreau was spotted in town earlier today. Boudreau is saying all the right things ahead of his interview.
It certainly seems like the Senators could have their new Head Coach in place as early as next week.
Once they hire a Head Coach, the organization would have to then turn their focus to filling out the rest of the staff.
Dorion mentioned during his first press conference that the new guy would be able to pick his own Assistants. The Senators also need an AHL Coach. Benoit Groulx has been mentioned as a possibility on that front.
-While neither side is ready to say anything publicly, the Ottawa Senators are in continued discussions to relocate their AHL team to Belleville, Ontario. Certainly sounds like there’s still plenty of work to be done to make it a reality but the fact that there may be a “Memorandum of Understanding” in place shows just how far these discussions have progressed.
-While the NHL playoffs role on, a few Ottawa Senators are set to get back on the ice at the World Championships in over in Russia. The preliminary round gets started tomorrow and it will feature Mark Stone, Cody Ceci and the rest of Team Canada taking on Chris Wideman and Team USA. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
