Today at noon we learned that 26-year old defenceman Christian Wolanin has officially cleared waivers.
And so we avoid another “asset management” meltdown. For now.
It’s not immediately clear what happens next for Wolanin. He has been added to the team’s taxi squad but he could eventually find his way onto the American Hockey League roster in Belleville.
Either way, Wolanin is going to have to find a way to increase his stock and work his way back up the depth chart. Playing big minutes with the BSens might not be the worst thing in the world for him at this stage.
According to Bruce Garrioch, the Senators tried to trade Christian Wolanin but there were no takers. Same story on the waiver wire. So as Wolanin approaches the end of his current deal and a summer as an unrestricted free agent, he suddenly faces an uncertain NHL future.
Here’s hoping he has a chance to find his game in Belleville.
