An already daunting task just became that much more difficult for the Ottawa Senators.
With Jakob Chychrun already expected to miss the remainder of the regular season, it now sounds like Thomas Chabot finds himself in a similar situation. Chabot left late in Monday’s game with an upper-body injury and now we’ve learned that it’s an injury that will sideline him for a couple weeks.
That would like mean missing six of the teams remaining eight games.
For those keeping score at home, the Senators are now without their 1B centre, two of their best defenceman and their starting goalie. Otherwise things are just fine.
The good news is the Senators happen to have a left shot defenceman just itching to make his NHL debut. And according to DJ Smith, that debut comes on Thursday night. Tyler Kleven, who signed his entry-level contract last week, suits up tomorrow night. He’ll start on the third pair with Nick Holden.
If there’s another silver lining here it’s that both Jake Sanderson and Erik Brannstrom have been excellent recently and should be able to help eat up some of Chabot’s minutes in all situations.
Couple other developments on the injury front too.
Cam Talbot is back with the team and will be available to play tomorrow night. Will be interesting to see if they go with him or Mads Søgaard, who was excellent against the Panthers. Meanwhile Ridly Greig was back on the ice for practice today and is no longer considered “out for the season”. Still not cleared to play though. Claude Giroux missed practice but should be good to go tomorrow.
The Senators host the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow night at the Canadian Tire Centre.
