The market won’t open officially until later today but the Ottawa Senators have got the ball rolling early on free agency day.
Erik Brannstrom has been signed to a one year contract worth $2 million. Brannstrom was a restricted free agent heading into the summer and will still be an RFA when this contract expires next year.
Here’s Pierre Dorion on the signing…
“Erik took a big step forward last season. Over the year’s second half of games especially, he demonstrated a strong ability to raise his game to the level where he’s using his confidence as an asset. We’re happy to have him under contract for another year.”
Brannstrom wasn’t the only RFA locked up as the Senators also announced that Jacob Bernard-Docker has been signed to a two-year contract worth a total of $1.61 million.
Sounds like it could be a busy day for the Senators. They’ll be shopping for forward depth and goaltending when the market opens at noon.
Stay tuned.
