On the heels of another overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks and with an extended break in the schedule ahead, the Ottawa Senators have done some lineup shuffling.
And it includes a (temporary) demotion for Erik Brannstrom.
The Senators don’t play again until Monday night and with a couple games in Belleville coming up (tomorrow and Saturday), it’s a good chance to get Brannstrom some playing time.
It not likely to be a long-term thing but it’s a good idea to have him playing somewhere. I certainly have him ahead of Christian Wolanin on the depth chart at this point, if that’s what DJ Smith’s decision comes down to.
The other moves are obvious cost-saving measures. Two-way contracts earn their minor league salary while on the taxi squad.
The Senators were on the ice for practice today, with Filip Gustavsson and Kevin Mandolese as the two goalies. Still waiting for an update on the status of Matt Murray and Joey Daccord. Anton Forsberg has to complete a seven-day quarantine before he can join the team.
In the meantime, if you have goalie gear, please report to the CTC. They may need you.
