I’m not gonna lie- this one is a bit of a head scratcher.
This morning the Ottawa Senators announced they have signed defenceman Mark Borowiecki to a three year contract extension.
Borowiecki was entering the second year of his current contract. What makes this news a little strange is the fact that Borowiecki has played just 21 games at the NHL level and was expected to really show if he could play at this level next season, armed with a one way contract. Obviously the Senators have already seen enough of Borowiecki to know that he fits in with the long term goals of the hockey club.
Good for Borowiecki obviously but the timing of this signing is a little strange.
The three extension is worth an average of $1.1 million a season.
