Four sleeps.
That’s all that separates us from an honest to goodness, actual game of hockey.
The up-and-coming Ottawa Senators against the over-the-hill Toronto Maple Leafs. An empty Canadian Tire Centre. Not a Leaf fan in sight. Fake crowd noise. Those perfect black 2D jerseys. Sigh.
Four sleeps.
DJ Smith had his team back on the ice for practice this morning ahead of what is said to be the biggest scrimmage in the history of Training Camp. While that may be a slight exaggeration, it does sound like some of the final decisions will be based on this evening’s festivities.
Today, the Senators placed a handful of players on waivers.
These are guys that are likely headed to the American Hockey League or in the case of some of them, to the taxi squad.
While there isn’t expected to be a ton of movement, names like Rudolfs Balcers and Filip Chlapik stand out here. Important to keep in mind that players claimed off of waivers have to stay on the claiming team’s NHL roster.
Ottawa isn’t the only team trying to sneak guys through the wire today.
Names like Tyler Johnson, Loui Eriksson, Corey Perry and Mathieu Perreault are among the bigger names on waivers.
