Attempting a SensChirp Mock Draft

In two weeks, the National Hockey League will gather virtually for what figures to be one of the most important days in the history of the Ottawa Senators.

Two weeks. TWO WEEKS.

At this point, we have discussed every possible scenario.

Do the Los Angeles Kings do the expected and grab Quinton Byfield at number two, leaving the Senators with Tim Stützle? Or is the German forward too tempting to pass up, leaving the Senators with an opportunity to grab Byfield at 3rd overall? It feels like there are more scenarios in play at 5th overall but again, it seems like we’ve considered every possibility.

Whether it’s Lucas Raymond, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Jake Sanderson, Cole Perfetti or even Yaroslav Askarov, we’ve considered it all.

The one constant in all these draft day scenarios is the fact that the Ottawa Senators are walking away with two high-end prospects that will immediately become two of the most important players in the organization.

TWO WEEKS!

To help pass the time, let’s see if we can pull off a SensChirp Mock Draft.

Picks should be entered in the comment section and I will add them to the list. Just round one. No trades this time around because it’s too damn complicated. Once the pick before you is entered on the list, you’re officially on the clock. Make sure your selection is entered as a new thread and not a reply or it may get missed. And feel free to include a few words about your pick if you like.

Here’s the link to Bob McKenzie’s final rankings as a resource.

1. NEW YORK (mkjr)- Alexis Lafreniere
2. LOS ANGELES (Cunning)- Quinton Byfield
3. OTTAWA (Pasky)- Tim Stutzle
“Do I think he is 100% the guy if Byfield is gone? Not really no. But dammit I’m running the team now and he is the #1C we need, or the #1LW that Brown needs to be a #1C. Either way I’m happy”
4. DETROIT (DJ Whammerstrom)- Cole Perfetti
“The Red Wings of Detroit, home of crime, mayhem and the worst hockey team in the world, Detroit, pick Stevie Y’s next Brayden Point”
5. OTTAWA (Pasky)- Lucas Raymond
“Hails from the same team as former Sens Captains Alfredsson and Karlsson, he is the only guy I can see PD choosing over Stutzle. Plays a complete 200 foot game, elite playmaking skills and although a natural RW he does have the flexibility to play on the left side as well. Since the new season has started and he is relegated to the 4th we are seeing that often rumoured offensive flair come out. The kid is made for what the Sens are trying to build. Him and Stutzle should gives us 2 high end Top 6 forwards, something we were severely lacking in our prospect pool.
6. ANAHEIM (Sensturion)- Jamie Drysdale
The Anaheim Ducks would like to say hello to our fans in the stands of their living rooms watching at home. Please wear masks. Also, only you can prevent forest fires.
7. NEW JERSEY (Nico)- Alexander Holtz
I can’t see NJ passing up on a sniper. Their team approach is going to have to evolve from a more 2 way defensive team to a transition/offensive team with all the high picks and speed they’ve picked up in recent years. D still needs work though..
8. BUFFALO (Bob)- Yaroslav Askarov
“Late to the party blowing off the combines. The Buffalo Sabres are proud to select some Russian goalie…”
9. MINNESOTA (Cliff Cotton)- Jake Sanderson
“Suter is on his last legs and we are moving Dumba out. Sanderson on an ELC is the smart move.”
10. WINNIPEG (Dirk-Diggler)-Marco Rossi
“With the 10th pick the Winnipeg Jets would like to laugh at Minnesota for leaving our main target on the board and choose from the Ottawa 67’s…
11. NASHVILLE (Senslady)- Seth Jarvis
“He will fit right into John Hynes fast-paced system and will end up being the steal of this draft. “
12. FLORIDA (Robertson Davies’ Beard)- Jack Quinn
13. CAROLINA (Sensanalyst)- Anton Lundell
“Carolina will soon be needing reinforcements in the two-way centre kind when Jordan Staal’s decline will accelerate. We feel that Lundell’s mix of skill and awareness will be a great asset to the team sooner than people might think. We believe his not flashy yet effective methods will translate very well to the NHL and even better to our “bunch of jerks”. “
14. EDMONTON (Twiz)- Dawson Mercer
“Great vision, excellent hands, and a good shot, the perfect compliment for Connor McDavid . With the 14th selection in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers are proud to select…”
15. TORONTO (Jakester)- Braden Schneider
“Why cuz they’ll select for need over best available for sure. Gotta replace Ceci!”
16. MONTREAL (PaV)- Justin Barron
Why? The Habs lack size on the backend. With an aging Weber they need someone big and not scared to get into those dirty corners.
17. CHICAGO (Bobby Boogie)- Dylan Holloway
“The times they are a changin’ in Chicago. Blowing into the Windy City like a Hurricane…”
18. NEW JERSEY (Nico)- Connor Zary
“With the 18th pick, the New Jersey Devils are proud to select from the NCAA circuit – Dylan Holloway Kamloops in the WHL… Connor Zary. Connor will play in all situations (PP/PK/EV)and will be counted on to be a two way 3rd line center or top 6 responsible winger depending on how his game evolves.”
19. CALGARY (PaulMacLeansDuster, sort of)- Kaiden Guhle
“Giordano is 36. They need some good young LHD in the system. Kaiden Guhle is an Alberta boy so they would have had lots of opportunity to see him play. He skates well and has good size.”
20. NEW JERSEY (Nico)- Jacob Perreault
Jacob plays hungry and will add scoring to thetop 6. Unlike Holtz and Zary, Perrault attacks the net and with a guy like Hischier or Hugues as a center, his game will transition nicely to the NHL
21. COLUMBUS (Jonathan Gros Gland)- Rodion Amirov
“We need scoring forwards… like big time. Rodion has an A level scoring touch and will only continue to progress.”
22. NEW YORK (mkjr)- Jack Finley
23. PHILADELPHIA (LinguoTheGrammarRobot)- Hendrix Lapierre
“With the 23rd overall pick the Philadelphia Flyers are pleased to select: Hendrix Lapierre. We’re surprised he’s slid as far as he has, and with our experts in brain injury treating Nolan Patrick we’re sure that a platoon of Lapierre and Patrick can add up to an elite NHL C.
24. COLORADO (Texas in July)- Lukas Reichel
“Thank you to Commissioner Senschirp for putting on this great draft and thanks to the community for your hospitality. With the 24th pick of the 2020 Entry Draft, the Colorado Avalanche are proud to select…not Braden Schneider”
25. WASHINGTON (MikeS)- William Wallinder
“Washington Capitals, select the he 6’4, smooth skating puck moving d-man: William Wallinder. Expecting him to become a beast when he fills out his body
26. ST. LOUIS (ASAP)- John-Jason Peterka
“With the loss of Alex Pietrangelo you would think they would select a dman but to me there is no dman left worthy of a 1st round pick. Peterka is a safe pick that has potential to slot somewhere in you’re top 6 and adds to a prospect pool that is pretty bare at the moment outside of Kostin and Alexandrov. “
27. ANAHEIM (Sensturion)- Shakir Mukhamadullin
Hmm, difficult. VERY difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There’s talent, oh yes. And a thirst to prove yourself. But where to pick you? Well if you’re sure, better be… GRYFFINDOR! I mean…
28. OTTAWA (Pasky)- Helge Grans
“Well it’s tough leaving on of my favorites on the board but with 2 high end forwards taken I think I will choose to shore up our defense. “
29. VEGAS (Howitis)- Ridly Greig
“What’s not to like about a player that uses vowels so recklessly in his name? No “e” where you expect it and then a surprise “i” out of nowhere. I lov thait”
30. DALLAS (Sidney Condra)- Tyler Kleven
“Tyler Kleven could be a force with his size. He could also be a Jared Cowen.
31. SAN JOSE (Red5StandingBy)- Jeremie Poirier
“To close out the first annual SensChirp.ca mock draft, The San Jose Sharks would like to thank our host SensChirp (everyone plesae click an ad on your way out). We’d also really like to give back Erik Karlsson and pick Tim Stutlze at 3rd overall. No? C’mon! Alright. In that case, the San Jose Sharks are non-plused to select, from the Saint John Sea Dogs, defenseman Jeremie Poirier. We’ve already wasted so much money on D we need to fill out our blueline with ELCs if we can. “

This is going to be chaos and I regret it already. It will be a miracle if we wrap this up before the actual draft.
