Artem Zub Signs for Two Years

Heading into this off-season, there were three tricky negotiations coming up with key restricted free agents.

Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson and Artem Zub all needed new contracts and all three of them played important roles on the Senators this past season.

This morning, Pierre Dorion crossed one name off the list.

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Artem Zub to a two-year contract worth an average of $2.5 million per season.

It’s maybe a shorter-term deal than some were hoping for but it’s hard to argue with the cap hit. Zub came out of nowhere this season and made the transition to North American hockey look easy. He’ll be a key piece on Ottawa’s blueline over the next couple seasons.

It’s obviously a bargain for the Senators right now but it’s worth pointing out that Zub will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the deal.

Pierre Dorion is holding his end of year press conference with the Ottawa media today.

More coming on that in a little bit.

Zuuuuuuuuuuuuuub.
