Travis Green clearly has this thing pointed in the right direction.
While his hiring was met with a healthy amount of criticism at the time, Green has proven to be exactly what this group needs. He has them playing a structured and defensively stingy style that would have been basically impossible to imagine under the previous regime.
Today, the organization rewarded Travis Green and his staff for that turnaround.
Green was locked in long-term today, receiving a multi-year extension that will last right through the 2030/2031 season.
It’s the kind of job security that is rare in Green’s line of work but it’s an indication of a job well done and a sign that Steve Staios (President of Hockey Operations) and Steve Staios (General Manager) believe in the job Green is doing here in Ottawa. And believe that he’s the guy that can take this group to the next level.
In the words of Steve Staios, “Stability, growth and trust.”
In addition to the Green extension, several members of the coaching staff – including assistants Nolan Baumgartner, Ben Sexton, Mike Yeo and goaltending coach Justin Peters – also received multi-year contract extensions.
