It was a little over a week ago that Steve Staios stood in front of the Ottawa media and said that he is comfortable with goaltending depth in the organization.
Things uh moved pretty fast from there.
After watching both Leevi Merilainen and Mads Sogaard struggle over the last week and with Linus Ullmark’s timeline still an unknown, the Ottawa Senators have mashed the ol’ panic button on the goaltending front.
This morning, the team announced that the have officially signed James Reimer to a one-year, one-way contract.
Reimer got the start for Belleville yesterday and well let’s just say, he definitely owns goalie equipment and is therefore, up to the job. Reimer allowed six goals on 28 shots in a 6-5 overtime loss.
The deal with Reimer is worth a pro-rated amount of $850,000. James Reimer joined the team at practice this morning.
