Tkachuk to Miss Four Weeks, Surgery Possible

There’s a headline I could do without.

A day after a wildly disappointing Home Opener, the news got a lot worse for the Ottawa Senators. They’re going to be without their Captain for the better part of a month.

When Brady Tkachuk sat out the final ten minutes of Monday’s game against the Nashville Predators, it was clear that he was dealing with something serious. Today we found out just how serious.

Travis Green met with the media this morning and shared that Tkachuk is going to be out for the next four weeks and it could be longer. The team is currently considering whether or not surgery is required, which could impact his return date. If Tkachuk does miss the full four weeks, that would be the next 14 games.

It goes without saying but this has the potential to be a disaster for the Senators. I guess I could have just not said it.

While they do have some recent experience playing without their Captain, including at the end of last season, there is just no replacing a guy like Brady Tkachuk. This is especially true for a team that doesn’t exactly have a ton of forward depth and scoring punch to begin with. It’s gonna have to be a by committee thing for the next four weeks.

No call-ups expected as it sounds like Drake Batherson will be ready to go for Wednesday night.

Meanwhile the Senators have also placed defenceman Donovan Sebrango on waivers. He appeared in the first two games of the season but sat on Monday because of the return of Tyler Kleven. If he clears, and he should, he would likely be assigned to the team in Belleville.

The Senators begin this stretch without Brady Tkachuk tomorrow night in Buffalo.

Yuck.
