Senators Sign Kleven to Two-year Deal

Woah woah woah. Was one of you gonna tell me the Ottawa Senators did a thing today?

After many, many days of surprisingly pleasant silence, Steady Steve emerged from his slumber today and in the process, crossed a key piece of summer business off his To Do list.

RFA defenceman Tyler Kleven is sticking around for a couple more years and it’s on rather affordable two-year contract.

The now 23-year old Kleven will earn an average of $1.6 million dollars over the next couple seasons. $1.5 million next season. $1.7 million the year after. I ran the numbers and the math checks out.

Considering the progress we saw in Tyler Kleven’s game during the post-season, this deal looks like a steeeeeal. Well there were some ups and downs throughout the regular season, Kleven showed that he is just scratching the surface of his potential in the playoffs. If he can have a big off-season, there’s every reason to believe he can start to force his way up the team’s depth chart as early as next October.

Here’s Staios on today’s signing…

“Tyler continued to elevate his game in his first NHL season, which was a good sign,” said Staios. “We expect his game will continue to develop.”

Kinda like what I said but just…steadier.
